Don't fear the future!

The other day I came across this super cheesy quote, and along with some conversations that I have had lately, it gave me the idea for this blog…

It reads, “The past is your lesson. The present is your gift. The future is your motivation.” So I started thinking of ways how this could apply to the life of a Believer, and I came up with this altered version of the quote…

“The past is your testimony, the present is your purpose, and the future is your promise.” And I want to write about each part of this quote, but I really want to focus on the last part... “The future is your promise.”

The future can honestly be a scary thing to think about… Thinking about all of the possibilities of the future comes with all the worries about what could happen, what couldn't happen, or what could go wrong...

“What if heaven doesn't even exist? And we are just going to die one day and that’s it?”

“What if I'm working this hard for a goal that I'm never going to achieve?”

“What if he is just going to wake up one day and decide he doesn't love me anymore?”

“What if I'm going to be alone and never find a soulmate?

“What if I don't get into my dream college?

The list could go on and on…

The Bible has promised us several things for this life, and one of them is that there will be trials. He never said to us that if we become a believer that all of a sudden our lives will be perfect and trail free… But He did tell us that despite the trails we can choose to take heart because He has overcome the world.

Let me be the one to tell you, yes you are going to get your heart broken at least once in this life. Yes, sometimes you are going to fail. And yes, sometimes your plans are not going to work out the way that you expected. But let me also be the one to tell you this, GOD HAS A BETTER PLAN!

In Proverbs 20:24 it says that “A person’s steps are directed by the Lord.

How then can anyone understand their own way?”

Can we take a moment to just note how awesome this verse is? The Bible literally tells us in this verse that there is no way that we are going to know “the way”. We are never going to be able to fully have the knowledge of what is going to happen in this life. If you’re reading this and you’re thinking, “how the heck is that awesome? I want to know everything that is going to happen..” Well let me remind you of the first part of the verse... YOUR STEPS ARE DIRECTED BY THE LORD! The Author of your Life directs YOUR steps. The one who is Love, Wisdom, and Perfection all in one directs YOUR steps. You don't get to know your future because as a Christian, He demands faith from you. You don't get to know the future because He knows that it would be too much for you to comprehend, and He wants you to have peace.

Yes, there are going to be things that we are never going to get to know. Yes, there are questions that we won’t get answered. But despite our lack of knowledge over things of this life or the next one, we can find comfort in the fact we serve the God who knows it all.

Find the testimony in your past, find your purpose in your present, and remember that the future is your promise. The promise that if you accept Jesus into your heart, and claim Him as Lord of your life, that you will spend eternity with Him. The same promise that says in Proverbs, that your steps in this life will be directed by him.

No, I don’t know what heaven is going to be like, and no I don’t know if you are going to marry your boyfriend, and I would be lying if I even told you what was going to happen tomorrow… But the one thing that I do know?

He gives me a testimony, a purpose, and a promise. And I will spend the rest of my time here on earth sharing my testimony, living out my purpose, and having faith in that promise. And I pray with my whole heart, that if you are reading this, you do the same.

I know that sometimes thinking of all the possibilities of what could happen can be scary, and I know that sometimes there is a real fear found in the anxiety of death or the next life. But I just want to speak peace over the person who finds themselves reading this, identifying with this fear...

Gods got you.

He loves you.

He has GOOD and PERFECT plans for your life.

He directs your steps.

And He promises you an eternity in His Kingdom with Him, as long as you accept Him as your Lord and Savior.

If you're reading this and you are thinking that you want to be in on this promise, then I encourage you to accept Him into your heart! If you have no idea how to do that then DM or text me!
