Forgiveness is Freedom

Every Christian knows what sin is because it is literally in every single part of the Gospel… In the beginning, there was no sin, then Adam and Eve ate the apple and sinned, when sin entered the world, we then became bound to our sin, so God sent His son Jesus to die for our sin, Jesus defeated sin, we are now free and forgiven from our sin, but we still sin every day. See? Lots of talk of sin.

Yet even though we are so aware of the sin in the Gospel, so many of us are so unaware of the sin in our own lives. Yes, we acknowledge the fact that we are sinful, and that Christ died for us, but we do nothing to change the pattern of sin in our life.

Even though we will never be perfect, we need to never stop pursuing perfectness Himself; Jesus. Jesus‘s death on the cross doesn’t just mean that we get to sin and be forgiven. That day on Calvary when Jesus stretched out His arms and died the death that you and I were meant to you, He gave us absolute freedom. Freedom from our sins, freedom from the bonds of guilt, and freedom from worldly brokenness.

He didn’t just die so that we can know that we are forgiven, He died so that we can live in that forgiveness. With forgiveness there is freedom. Through His blood He defeated death. Think about that for a second… Without Jesus, you and I and everyone that we love would be destined to death. Slaves to sin and slaves to death. But because of Jesus, not only can we live for eternity in Paradise, but we can live in complete freedom during our life here on earth.

As a devoted follower of Christ, yes I praise God that I am forgiven of my sins. But honestly, I need to start acknowledging the sin in my life and acting quickly on it. Life is way too short to sit around and wait to fall out of sin. As Christians, we need to acknowledge quickly, repent quickly, accept forgiveness quickly, and then run as fast as possible away from that sin. You and I were called to live in freedom. So this is my reminder, and anyone else reading this that through Jesus you have freedom.

Yeah sure, you and I can keep choosing whatever sin that is temporarily satisfying us. We could ignore it, and listen to the lies of the enemy saying that we will “stop doing it one day”. Or we could accept the gift of forgiveness and freedom today. Right at this very second, we could take up our cross, and wholeheartedly follow Jesus. Behind the first choice is temporary satisfaction, heartbrokenness, and death. Behind the second choice are eternal satisfaction, redemption, freedom, forgiveness, and eternal life.

Life on this earth is so short. Don’t spend your few years searching for something that will never fulfill you. Run from your sin, run into the arms of Jesus, and find forgiveness and freedom.
