Path of Righteousness
I went on a run today- a trail run. When I got to the entrance of the the woods where the trail started, there were two ways I could go. One way was not labeled, but the other was marked with trail markers. Sometimes the road would split, but there would be a sign “tower loop” and an arrow pointing where to go. This way I knew I was staying on the right path. Every time I ran up a hill, took a turn, had to leap over a branch, I would find a marker not too far after: “tower loop”, affirming the path I was on. Once I decided I was going to turn around, those markers guided me back. Anytime I got concerned if I was heading the right direction I would glance back and see the marker “tower loop”- & I knew I was going the right way.
The run back was hard. It was hot. I was tired. Lots of turns and hills. But I knew that no matter how hard, I could look back at any moment, see the marker: “tower loop”, and trust where I was heading. I knew where I came from, and so I knew where I would end up. I just had to keep going & trust the trail, and the markers would lead me there.
This made me think about a Christian’s walk (or run) with Jesus-
at one point in our lives, we are face to face with a cross road, and a choice: one path is full of sin and fleshly desires. Maybe it looks pleasing- but there is no direction to guide you, and soon we realize it’s a path that leads us to destruction.
And the other- A path hand-in-hand with Your Creator. A path full of freedom from the bondage of your sin. Where you are led in step with the Spirit.
This is the path of Righteousness.
It’s not an easy path. It’s a path of picking up your cross and denying your flesh. Sometimes it’s hard.
But it’s a true path. A path that has been established by the Lord.
As you let the Spirit lead you, you are sanctified. In every hill, every valley, every trial, you can look back, and remember Gods provision in your walk with Him. You can look to scripture and see that His word, and His character have never wavered from the steadfast Love that He has for us. From the beginning of time He has been Sovereign. Trustworthy.
We know Who we came from. We came from the living God- and because we have walked in righteousness, confess yes with our mouth He is Lord, accepted His Spirit, and allow him to guide us, we know our destination is Heaven. And so we run. We run the race marked in front of us with full faith that He is leading us to Himself.
With markers along the way that read “citizenship in Heaven”, affirming our every step.
