Jesus, the best basketball player to ever live

In my eighth grade history class, I remember one day my teacher was trying to illustrate to us a point in a lesson he was teaching... I don’t remember the lesson exactly, but I know it had something to do with someone’s circumstance, or family they were born into, attempting to make it in the world, getting a job and such. He made each of us take out our notebooks, crumble a piece of paper in a ball, and give it our best attempt to make it into the trash can at the front of the room. We couldn’t move from our desk to shoot the shot. Whether we were at the very back of the classroom, or in the front row, we had to stay exactly where we were, just hoping and wishing we would make it in the trash can. And recently God brought that day in class back into my mind to remind me of something.

We do not have to stay at our desks to shoot our shot at an eternal life and relationship with Jesus. Whether you were born into a super poor, middle class, or filthy rich family, He could care less. Because with the Savior, there is an overwhelming amount of spiritual wealth that comes with the surrendering of your heart. Whether you are black, white, or purple, all He sees when he looks at you is “fearfully and wonderfully made; a child of the One True King.” Whether you are an active member of the church, or have never stepped into a church in your life, He longs for you to enter into His Kingdom of eternity alongside Him. It doesn’t even matter to Him if you were born into a Baptist, Orthodox, Jewish, Muslim, Catholic, Buddhist, or even Atheist household. Because to Him there are no denominations. To Him there is only One way to the Father, and that is through Him.
You do not have to sit in your current circumstance, family, situation, heartache, addiction, or household, just wishing that you could have a Relationship with Jesus, thinking that because of who you are and what you have done you can’t. You don’t have to believe the lie that your shot is too far away and that you're stuck in that desk of life you find yourself in.
It doesn’t matter what you have done. There is no sin too big for Him.
With Jesus, there is no shot too shoot. But only a gift to receive.
There is no luck of the draw with our Messiah. He will come to you, in whatever current situation you find yourself in.
If you have felt stuck, guilty, or empty lately, and have been searching for something. Anything. This is it. God is talking to you specifically right now. I don’t know who reads my blogs, where you’re from, or what your current circumstance is, but I do know that you are Loved by the one who defined Love in the very beginning, and who is Love Himself.
If you have accepted Jesus into your heart, but have just felt distant lately, whether from just letting life get in the way, or because of mistakes you have made, take this as an opportunity and sign to rekindle that relationship with Him. He has never stopped seeking you out, all you need to do is go to Him today and surrender yourself to Him all over again.
And if you have not accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, and you are feeling a tug at your heart that this is what you have been longing for in life, you can pray this prayer:
“Hey God, I know that we haven’t talked very much, or not at all. But today, right at this moment, I want to make the decision to walk with you, and have a relationship with you. Please right now, come into my heart. Take over my life. I can’t do this by myself anymore. I believe that your Son was sent to die for ME and MY sins, and I want to know you, and learn to love you. Amen.”
If you just prayed that and now have no idea what to do I would love to help you with those next steps in a relationship with Him! Just like you, I am in desperate need of a Savior and would love to chat with you and be able to encourage each other in Faith! (DM me on instagram or Text me: 832-767-9586).
So let’s rejoice today! Let’s rejoice because we don’t have to shoot our shot with Jesus, with hopes of making it. We can confidently claim our eternal life. Because just in case you didn’t know, Jesus sinked that shot for us on the cross a long time ago.
